Car ownership will evolve in a similar fashion to how landline phones changed with the coming of the cell phone. At first, few gave up landlines because cell phones weren’t a complete substitute. As cell phone networks improved in quality and ubiquity, the rationale for paying for an additional landline gradually went away and today relatively few people still have them. Businesses and older demographics are hanging on but it’s not mainstream. Similarly car ownership will continue with businesses and boomers but gradually die out as robotaxi variety, quality, affordability, and availability improve.
